'Soap' star Crystal Chappell discusses Pride Month, web series announcement

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- A daytime drama icon is making a big announcement about her Emmy award winning web series, "Venice: The Series."

Crystal Chappell, also known as Olivia Spenser on "Guiding Light," played alongside Jessica Leccia and together they portrayed the history making same sex couple named "Otalia" by adoring fans.

When the long time CBS televison series went off the air in 2009, Chappell gave new life to the spirit of her character on the web.

“Once Guiding Light went off the air, it was like ‘this is resonating with so many people, let's see if we can go onto a platform with some freedom to it.’ ”

Chappell created “Venice: The Series” an online web drama, staring her character’s love interest Jessica Leccia.

So, in honor of Pride Month, Chappell has an announcement for her fans.

“Given that it is Pride Month," she said. "We're going to go back to New Jersey where fans will recognize some familiar haunts. It’s the 10th reunion of "Otalia," which inspired Venice."

“Otalia” fans will be happy to learn that the sixth season of "Venice: The Series" is returning to our area.
