PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Philadelphia Soul will take to the road this weekend for a Saturday night road game against the Albany Empire.

It has been rough sledding as of late here for the 4-4 Soul. They have lost four of their last five games.

This past Sunday, they lost to the Washington Valor at the Wells Fargo Center, 49-48. It was Washington's first win of the season.

Soul head coach Clint Dolezel said they just didn't make some key plays.

"Both ends of the halves we had a chance to score with a timeout, 30-something seconds [left]," he said. "Usually you give us that, we're going to score 90 percent of the time. We didn't even get a chance to get a field goal. That's just not executing, [not] working the game plan."

The Soul went with the recently acquired Shane Austin as quarterback against Washington as he became the third signal caller to start a game for the team this season, joining the injured Dan Raudabaugh and Greg McGhee.

Austin went 18 for 33 for 302 yards. He had six touchdowns and two interceptions. Dolezel said Austin's debut graded out to about a B and added that he shouldn't get all the blame for the two interceptions.

"We didn't help him out much in the receiver area," Dolezel said. "We've got to get the right depths on our routes to make it look the way its supposed to. The timing's got to be there and it wasn't there at the most crucial times. That's on our veterans. We've got to be better there."

The Empire are 5-3 this season and just had a five-game winning streak, snapped with a 59-56 home loss to Baltimore. Dolezel said going into Albany will be tough.

"It will be a hostile environment, a great environment," he added. "That's why you play the game, to go into environments like Albany. They have a great fan base."

These two teams have split their first two meetings this season.

Saturday night's game will kick off at 6 p.m.
