PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- The University of Delaware football team is in the midst of spring workouts which will culminate with the annual spring game on April 21st.

Second-year head coach Danny Rocco likes what he has seen out of his team so far in these workouts.

"I think we're off to a good start, making a lot of progress," Rocco tells KYW Newsradio. "I thought our players had a lot of recall from last year. So we were able to get off to a fast start. Last year at this time we were really just introducing our philosophies and our schemes and our playbook. We had a lot of recall from last year, a lot of retuning players. So I felt like we got off to a really fast start. They understand the expectation and at this stage, with ten practices done, we've gotten in a real good percentage of our installation."

Delaware went 7-4 in Rocco's first season as head coach, finishing 5-3 in the Colonial Athletic Association.

J.P. Caruso took over the starting quarterback job during the second half of last season. Right now he is working his way back from off-season shoulder surgery. The Blue Hens also added Darius Wade to the quarterback position. He is a redshirt senior and a Delaware native transferring in from Boston College.

"I anticipate going into August camp with two very capable, veteran quarterbacks and then allowing the competition to continue to play out there early on in camp," Rocco says.

Rocco talks about one position that he's kept a close eye on this spring.

"We lost four senior defensive linemen and I think that it's important that we be able to go out there this spring and kind of develop our depth and identify or re-identify who some of these guys are," he says. "Been really pleased with that, [defensive line coach Levern] Belin's doing a really good job with our defensive line."

Delaware's spring game on April 21st gets underway at 3:30pm.
