CAMDEN (KYW Newsradio) - Connect The Lots returned for the season Friday night.

It's a summer-long effort to highlight some underused spaces throughout Camden neighborhoods.

"It's really about bringing vibrancy back to the City of Camden," said organizer Meishka Mitchell. "Free, family-friendly events in open spaces throughout the city. There's something to do just about every night of the week."

Spaces, Mitchell said, people tend to avoid.

"The City of Camden has lots of vacant lots and underutilized spaces," she said. "There's lots of beautiful spaces that people may not come to until they are activated and they know they are safe spaces for them to come."

Spaces like Cooper's Poynt Waterfront Park, which hosted the Connect The Lots kickoff event...Camden Night Garden.

"It is very fabulous," said eight-year-old Melody. "I like it."

"The event was pretty," added eight-year-old Deyanira, talking about the background view of the Delaware River and Ben Franklin Bridge. "I'm here with my sister having fun."

There were Mermaid acrobats at Camden Night Garden, in addition to ziplining, sand sculpting, live music and more.
