LANCASTER, PA (KYW Newsradio) -- A flap over flapjacks has led to the suspension of a middle school teacher.

During standardized state tests at Hand Middle School April 10, eighth-grade teacher Kyle Byler brought a griddle to his classroom and cooked a whole-grain pancake for each of his students as they took the PSSA exam.

The principal walked into the classroom and witnessed the teacher's actions.

As a result, Byler told Lancaster Online that he was suspended without pay for causing a distraction. District spokeswoman Kelly Burkholder said in a statement that teachers are required to focus their full attention on monitoring students during the test.

Byler was expected to return to class Thursday, minus the griddle.
