EVENT: Dog Day of Summer

DATE/TIME: Saturday, 11a.m. to 4 p.m.

WHERE: 107 Levering St., Philadelphia

DETAILS: This one has gone to the dogs! Celebrate our four-legged friends with a day full of pet-friendly vendors, activities, pet adoptions, food vendors, and more at the Levering Lot. New this year is the Pup Crawl, where participating businesses will have special drink specials and activities for you and your pup.

Don't have a dog? Don't fret! This is a family-friendly event for four- and two-legged guests.



EVENT: Philadelphia Obon Festival

DATE/TIME: Saturday, 11a.m. to 5 p.m.

WHERE: Shofuso Japanese House and Garden, Lansdowne Drive and Horticultural Drive, Philadelphia

DETAILS: Obon is a Japanese celebration of one’s ancestors. Each August, people return to their hometowns to remember the dead and reunite with loved ones. Obon is celebrated with regional dances, called bon odori, along with dances, music contests, and other cultural celebrations.

The Philadelphia Obon Festival includes bon odori folk dance, taiko drumming performances by KyoDaiko, and tea ceremony demonstrations by Urasenke Philadelphia. Attendees can also enjoy arts and crafts, classic summer festival games, and a yukata dressing station, as well as a vendor market with home goods, apparel, and food trucks. All events will take place outside of Shofuso and are free and open to the public. Regular admission ($2-12) is required to visit Shofuso.



EVENT: Summer Fun Jam

DATE/TIME: Saturday, 11a.m. to 9 p.m.

WHERE: Merwood Park, Havertown

DETAILS: Summer Fun Jam, a sensory-friendly day of inclusion for people of all abilities. There will be afternoon activities and games for kids, pony rides, and food, followed by a concert under the stars featuring live music from Wonderland.



EVENT: 28th annual Ukrainian Folk Festival

DATE/TIME: Sunday, noon to 8 p.m.

WHERE: Tryzub Ukrainian American Sport Center, Lower State Road and County Line Road, Horsham

DETAILS: Recent events in Ukraine, like the Euromaidan protest and revolution of dignity, as well as the twilight struggle against unlawful Russian aggression, have forged a unified Ukrainian national identity, both in Ukraine and in the diaspora. America’s support of Ukraine’s commitment to a self-determined democratic future — to life, liberty, freedom and justice — has created permanent bonds of friendship between the two nations. This year’s festival honors these special relationships and developments.

EVENT: Philadelphia Tacos and Margs Crawl

DATE/TIME: Saturday, 2 p.m.

WHERE: Meet for registration at JJ Bootleggers, 35 S. Second St., Philadelphia

DETAILS: The official Tacos and Margs Crawl is back, taking over Old City's best bars for a taco and tequila-inspired bar crawl. Party at the area's best bars and win free tacos and other swag by checking in with the Bar Crawl Nation app.

Participating venues include JJ Bootleggers, Gaslight, Drinkers Tavern, Sto's Bar, Silence Dogood's and Old City Beer Garden.

PRICE: $25 for general admission; $50 for VIP


EVENT: Fonthill Castle Beer Fest

DATE/TIME: Saturday, 2 to 5 p.m.

WHERE: Fonthill Castle, 525 E. Court St., Doylestown

DETAILS: Spend an end-of summer afternoon at Fonthill Castle for our annual Beer Fest, featuring high-quality drafts from local and regional breweries in a beautiful outdoor setting. Guests enjoy live music, light fare, and a commemorative beer-tasting glass.

PRICE: $100 for VIP; $60 for general admission; $55 for members; $25 for members

EVENT: August Twilight in the Gardens

DATE/TIME: Friday, 7 to 10 p.m.

WHERE: Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens, 1020 South St., Philadelphia

DETAILS: Send the summer out right with our August Twilight in the Gardens. This month will feature a live performance by John Gilbride and a polymer clay activity with teaching artist Erica Hemler.

PRICE: $20 for adults; $16 for students and seniors; $12 for members


EVENT: Smooth Jazz Summer Nights: Michael Manson

DATE/TIME: Friday, 7:30 to 9 p.m.

WHERE: Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing, 101 N. Columbus Blvd., Philadelphia

DETAILS: With grace and gravitas, contemporary R&B bassist MIchael Manson will fill the Great Plaza at Penn's Landing with his rich musical stylings. This free, outdoor concert series highlights renowned jazz and blues musicians from across the globe, creating performances enjoyed by people of all ages and backgrounds, each Friday night in August. 



EVENT: "Creed II" in Clark Park

DATE/TIME: Friday, 7 p.m.

WHERE: Clark Park, 4300 Baltimore Ave., Philadelphia

DETAILS: Movies in Clark Park continue with the next film in the Rocky franchise. Join us for the movie plus food from Philly Goodfellas, Foolish Waffles and ICE CAVE. Bring your blankets and chairs and enjoy a free movie in beautiful Clark Park.



EVENT: Philly Girls Jump Community Day

DATE/TIME: Sunday, 2 to 6 p.m.

WHERE: Awbury Park, 6101 Ardleigh St., Philadelphia

DETAILS: Anyone who loves jumping double Dutch, no matter how young or old, are encouraged and welcome to join the fun. Bring your ropes, your water, your favorite double Dutch songs, and let's have fun doing what we love. During the first hour, there will be a free double Dutch instruction. There will be vendors, food and giveaways throughout the day as well.
