PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- A former “Top Chef” winner, and Philadelphia-native, is celebrating the opening weekend of her new Rittenhouse restaurant.

“Top Chef” alumni Jennifer Carroll and her fiancé Billy Riddle have returned to Philadelphia to open Spice Finch, inside of the Warwick Hotel along 17th Street.

The newly opened restaurant features the flavors of the Middle East and North Africa.

"We're pulling all of our flavors from all over really like Greece, Israel, Turkey, Northern Africa, Morocco," she said.

Carroll says the restaurant’s cuisine of choice happens to be based off of how her and Riddle cook at home.

She says the funny thing about it is…

“Neither of us have traveled to those regions, so lots of YouTube learning," Carroll explains.

"That's what I'm hoping for, to work that into the budget somehow," she said.

This weekend marks both the grand opening for Spice Finch, and Carroll's homecoming after she spent several years working in other states.

"My opening night was really nice,” she said. “Rittenhouse and the neighborhood really welcomed us."
