PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- Twenty high school students have been honored for completing a course moving them toward jobs in the solar energy industry.

It's the second year for the "Find Your Power" course. But it's a first as well.

"It's our first ever 'in school' solar and energy efficiency training program," said Emily Schapira, executive director of the Philadelphia Energy Authority. "So it took place the spring semester. We did about a hundred hours of training."

Last year, one graduate got a job in the green industry. But Schapira says this year there is even better news.

"Seven of them are going on to internships this summer," she said. "And we have three additional students coming into internships this summer as well, so ten total, at energy companies and solar companies."

The training is supported by Solarize Philly, a program designed to get Philadelphians to go solar. PECO also presented a one hundred thousand dollar check to PEA to continue to train young people for solar careers.
