PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- The Urban Affairs Coalition is celebrating its 49th birthday by celebrating others at their anniversary breakfast.

Sharmain Matlock-Turner, president of the coalition, says this breakfast is a great opportunity to share with supporters and new friends alike the past, present and ongoing vision of the coalition.

“We started really as an outgrowth of civic unrest in the 1960’s after the tragic assassination of Dr. King, Matlock-Turner says, “where we said ‘we can get more done together rather than separate’ and we've spent the last 49 years doing that.

Hosting more than 800 guests at the breakfast, the coalition will recognize Dr. Keith Leapart, Joanne Epps, Esq. and Dr. Marisa Guerin for their leadership in making Philadelphia a better place to live and work.

“In a time where people are looking at what divides us, we're still looking at what brings us together,” she said.

The breakfast will be held November 16, from 7:45 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.

A second breakfast, the "friends of the coalition breakfast,” will also be hosted for the next generation of community advocates.
