PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — For a second straight season, the West Chester University softball team has advanced to the Super Regionals of the Division II NCAA Tournament.

The Golden Rams will host Gannon in the best-of-three Super Regional beginning Thursday at noon.

"We're excited to be back in the Super Regionals," said Diane Lokey, West Chester head coach. "Ready to get going."

West Chester enters the Super Regional with a record of 43-13. The Golden Rams won their first three games in the tournament by a combined score of 15-1.

Lokey noted some players who are leading the way through the post-season.

"We have a core group of seniors that have literally been four-year starters," she said. "Our pitcher, Amanda Houck, she just had her 100th [career] win that last game at Lock Haven [in the tournament]. She is now 30-5 [this season]. Senior Madison Kelly, she is one of our outfielders, she had two key hits in the Lock Haven series. Sara Ercolani, our second baseman, another senior, just played some stellar defense at second. Cat Hammer, our catcher, another senior, and then Bri Garber, our sophomore, she's been key offensively for us and she is one of our outfielders."

Garber leads the team with a .461 batting average.

West Chester is quite familiar with this Gannon team they will face in the Super Regionals. The Golden Rams lost twice to the Golden Knights in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Tournament.

"They have two strong pitchers that keep hitters off balance and they can hit the ball," Lokey said of Gannon. "When we played them in the PSAC Tournament, they got some key hits. That was the one thing that we did not get when we played Gannon."
