PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- Rumors have been swirling lately that the second season of MTV's hit show "Jersey Shore: Family Vacation" would be filming in the Wildwoods this summer. Officials there have put the kibosh on that, but that doesn't necessarily mean the cast won't be making at least an appearance in the South Jersey beach resort.

The situation is US Weekly is reporting that Season 2 of the "Jersey Shore" reboot will film in the Wildwoods starting July 15.

Wildwoods officials issued a statement on Friday saying they'd be opposed to the idea.

"The Wildwoods' family-friendly atmosphere, beautiful award-winning beaches, Boardwalk fun and Doo Wop ambience does not align with the show's overall theme and message," the statement read. "Our resort destination is geared toward good, clean fun for families and multi-generational vacationers who enjoy our beaches, boardwalk and one-of-a-kind attractions."

So will Snooki, Pauly D and the gang be in town...or not?

"What I've heard is that they have made some arrangements to possibly rent a couple houses down here," said Wildwoods Commissioner Pete Byron.

Byron says even without a permit, the show can still film in privately-owned Wildwoods homes and businesses, but not on city-owned property.

Despite the statement that was released, Byron says he would at least welcome a conversation with the show's producers about getting that permit.

"Why not? I think it's neat," he said. "And I think it would be something really special for the town."

Provided, he says, the show is nowhere near as raunchy as it was when it premiered nearly a decade ago.
