PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- Girls on the Run is a program designed to pair up young girls with established career women for mentorship through running. The program culminated with a 5k run and a day of fun Saturday in South Philadelphia.

More than 500 girls and their families dropped by the Navy Yard for the run. Lisa Detwiler is vice president of the Forum of Executive Women. She says during the program, the girls were introduced to women who work in male dominated industries.

"In our group here, we have an FBI agent, a number of lawyers, we have an Air Force pilot, we have doctors," Detwiler said, "so the girls can talk to different people about different professions."

The motto is "if you can see it, you can dream it."

Nine-year-old Aminata aspires to become a doctor.

"It's because I like to help people if they're sick," she said. "And when my mom gets older, I want to take care of her and stuff."
