PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- Some of the most important research in the past five years has centered around the importance of moving around and not sitting for extended periods of time.

A sedentary lifestyle increases the risk of heart attack, stroke and even cancer. But how can you achieve the goal of standing while at work?

Here are some ideas:

-- Use a standing-sitting desk or adjustable attachment. This makes it easy to alternate positions without disrupting your workflow.

-- Set an alarm on your phone or computer for every 30 minutes. When it rings, do a two-minute exercise challenge. For example, walk in place with high knees, or stand up and sit back down as many times as you can.

You may need to be somewhat creative in the workplace, but it is something to think about.

There are now smart devices that can remind you to stand up and move around. Take advantage of these tools.
